How It Works
Area conversion handles the four units most commonly encountered in real estate, land measurement, and interior design: square feet, square meters, acres, and hectares. All conversions route through square meters as the base unit. The non-linear relationship between area and length units (doubling a side length quadruples the area) means you can't just use a length conversion factor — this calculator applies the correct squared conversion.
The Formula
1 acre = 43,560 sq ft = 4,047 sq m = 0.4047 hectares. 1 hectare = 10,000 sq m = 2.471 acres.
When to Use This
This comes up most often in real estate and property contexts — comparing listings from different countries, understanding lot sizes in unfamiliar units, or converting between the unit on a property listing and the unit your intuition works in. It's also used in agriculture (field sizes in acres vs. hectares), interior design (room measurements in sq ft vs. sq m), and any construction project spanning US and metric contexts.
